Love Your Heart

Cardiovascular diseases, including stroke, is our nation’s number one killer.  Statistics show that someone has a heart attack every 34 seconds despite gender or age.  Each minute, someone in the United States will die from heart disease.  Our hope is to increase awareness of the threat of heart disease, so that it won’t be so devastating. Early prevention is the best defense.   Along with that, we at Mother Earth Minerals hope people will learn the heart-healthy benefits of using safe, highly effective, and natural products.

Magnesium helps in the formation and function of muscle tissue. Each molecule of muscle protein (myosin) has an atom of magnesium in its chemical structure.  This protein called myosin is critical in the healthy functioning of the heart.  Magnesium helps the heart with its muscle contractions by regulating the neuromuscular activity that assures a regular heartbeat as well as its role in helping the body to make the most out of potassium and calcium – both of which also affect heart health and function.  With inadequate amounts of magnesium, your heart simply cannot function correctly. Hypertension (high blood pressure), cardiac arrhythmia, cardiovascular disease (CVD) and sudden cardiac death are all potential effects of magnesium deficiency. Magnesium is essential in keeping the heart muscle healthy and happy.

Fiber is found naturally in many fruits, vegetables, legumes, and grains. Fiber has been found to be a great way to reduce the amount of cholesterol the body absorbs from food. If you are not getting enough fiber from your diet and choose to supplement, it’s a good idea to increase the amount you take slowly to prevent gas and cramping. Also, be sure to drink enough liquids when you increase fiber intake.

Potassium is a critical mineral in helping the heart function properly.  At the most basic level, potassium is essential to the rhythmic, smooth and continuous pumping of the heart. This is because potassium supports the nerve transmissions and greatly takes part in making sure that every muscle in the body gets to move. Potassium greatly helps in regulating a person’s heartbeat.

Fish oil is full of omega-3 fatty acids and has been shown to significantly decrease unhealthy fat in your blood (trigycerides) by up to 30%. It may also be a key factor in maintaining a healthy blood pressure level. If at all possible eat at least 3.5-ounce servings of fish a week. If you decide to supplement, be sure to get the freshest source you can find, as oil going bad is a common concern.

Selenium is another mineral that is important to the function and health of the heart. Together with Vitamin E it actually serves as an important antioxidant in addition to its role in keeping the tissues of the body flexible. Selenium also offers protection against diseases of the heart and blood vessels. Lack of selenium in the body has been connected to various types of heart diseases and conditions including an enlarged heart and compromised heart function in children.

The Truth about Cholesterol and Statin Drugs
By A. True Ott, PhD

Despite decades of funding and public service messages, Cardio Vascular Disease (CVD) remains the number one killer in America.  According to the American Heart Association (you know the AHA with their symbol of the red heart with the eternal flame in its center), over 2,150 Americans die each and every day from CVD.  Over the last decade, the percentage of CVD mortalities of individuals under 65 years of age has also steadily increased.  The AHA reports: “The total number of inpatient cardiovascular operations and procedures increased 28%, from 5,939,000 in 2000 to 7,588,000 in 2010 (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute computation based on National Center for Health Statistics annual data)…   Read More

We believe that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and we hope that everyone will join in the fight against heart and cardiovascular disease by giving their body the proper nutrition it needs to keep their hearts healthy and strong.
